''Boston'' Waltham police officer, utility worker killed

 

A Waltham, Massachusetts, police officer and a National Grid utility worker were killed in a crash at a construction detail on a busy road on Wednesday evening.

Officer Paul Tracey, 58, a 28-year-old veteran of the Waltham Police Department and a 23-year-old man from Cambridge died in the crash just after 4 p.m. on Totten Pond Road, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan said

The suspect was identified by the DA's office as Peter Simon, 54, of Woodsville, New Hampshire.

According to the District Attorney's Office, Simon was driving a pickup truck eastbound on Totten Pond Road when he pulled to the side of the road off on the shoulder, leaving room for a car that was behind him to continue.

Ryan said Simon's vehicle then suddenly attempted to make a U-turn across the road, colliding with a Jeep that was originally behind simons truck
